We are into horror, both speculative and psychological. We assume all stories submitted are fictional, so if they aren't, don't ever tell us. Any cross over genres with a strong horror element will be considered. Dark humor, that is done well, (how is that for subjective?) is always appreciated.

What we don't want:

• 1st person stories will be considered, but are less preferred especially 1st person past tense where the POV character dies at the end.
• Stories that deal with the abuse, torture or rape of children or women. Also, stories that depict woman as helpless or powerless victims stand little chance.
• We don't like memoir or journals so it would have to be incredible to be accepted.
• If you have THE best serial killer story ever, then maybe.
• Gore for gore's sake is not our thing, but this is a magazine for adults, so if it is intrinsic to the story, do it well. Slasher stories where only the virgins live is not ok, sex is a necessary evil.
• Traditional monsters will be considered, but make it unique.

The Pay:

The 100-word stories* = 5 Cents per word plus one Contributor Copy

101-5000 = 1 Cent per word plus one Contributor Copy

The best story from each submission period will receive 5 Cents per word, up to the maximum word count of 5,000 for a total of up to $250 dollars.

*100 words precisely, not 99 or less and not 101. For purpose of word count, the 100-word story includes the title and the body of the story. The writer's name and even the word “by” which usually appears after the writer's name is not included. Don't trust any automated counting tool you should manually count.

 

The Mechanics:

• All stories must be pasted into the body of an email sent to: editor@necrotictissue.com - Absolutely no attachments, keep your infections to yourselves.
• In the Subject line, type the word Submission: Your story title
• Cover letters are not necessary, but please include all of your contact information in the body of the email (Full name, address, email) as well as your most recent or favorite writing credits. If you have never been published, please tell us, we love to feature new writers when possible.
• No snail mail, we only accept email submissions.
• Submissions will only be accepted during listed times.
• Stories that don't follow these rules will be deleted without acknowledgment.
• There are four submissions periods a year: January, April, July & October.
• Publish dates are January, April, July & October.
• Our response time goal is four weeks for rejections and eight weeks for stories that make the short list.
• No Multiple Submissions.
• No Reprints
• Simultaneous submissions are ok if you tell us and notify us if someone else accepts your story while it's in our Queue.
• Queries after 6 weeks are ok. Send Queries to queries@necrotictissue.com with “Query” and the story title in the subject line.

We publish with First North American Print rights, reverting to the author three months after publication. Payment is made within 30 days of publication and preferably through PayPal (checks can be sent on request, but I will grumble)
